Bus bridge alert: Hazardous tree removal and track work between Union City and Fremont on 3 non-consecutive weekends (Next work weekend 9/23-24)

Calendar for hazardous tree removal and track work between Union City and Fremont

Updated 5:15pm 9/7/23

The weekend track shutdown between Union City and Fremont stations that had been planned for Saturday and Sunday 9/9-10 has been cancelled. The next scheduled weekend track shutdown for this project is September 23-24.

BART’s safety initiative to remove potentially hazardous trees in advance of severe winter storms will next focus on southern Alameda County. To provide workers with enough room to safely do the work free buses will replace trains between Union City and Fremont stations on 3 non-consecutive weekends in August and September. The work dates are August 26-27, September 9-10, and September 23-24. Riders in the area should anticipate delays of up to 30 minutes on work weekends.

There will be no Green Line service on work weekends, this means trains will not come as frequently as usual and transbay riders will need to transfer. Union City riders should anticipate normally scheduled departures could be delayed. Riders south of Union City heading to San Francisco should take an Orange Line Richmond train to Bay Fair and transfer to a Daly City-bound Blue Line train. Coming back from San Francisco, take a Dublin-bound Blue Line train and transfer at Bay Fair.

On each night of weekend shutdowns, the last scheduled departure from Berryessa/North San Jose that normally leaves at 11:47 pm will be cancelled. Riders traveling northbound from Berryessa/North San Jose must catch the earlier train at 11:14 pm each night.

BART will make the most of the time when this segment of the system will be closed by also working on trackway improvements. Work will include replacing aging rail and station brightening activities. You can learn more about BART’s safety initiative to remove potentially dangerous trees on the project page.
