Director
Liz Ames was first elected to the BART Board on November 6, 2018 and was re-elected in 2022. Director Ames represents District 6, which includes Fremont, South Hayward (partial), Union City, and Warm Springs/South Fremont.
Director Ames is a licensed Professional Civil Engineer (P.E.) and brings nearly 30 years of local government experience serving as a Civil Engineer in Palo Alto. She has been able to organize and educate diverse coalitions of people to support positive public policy in the Bay Area (e.g., preservation of open space, creation of trails in Niles Canyon and Union City, community redesign, citywide infrastructure planning and programs). She has managed street resurfacing programs, several major transportation projects and several multi-million dollar capital projects.
She formerly served as a Union City Planning Commissioner and was the Palo Alto Federal Credit Union Board President. She served as Chairperson for the Save Our Hills coalition in Union City which has saved 60 acres of prime open space.
She earned her civil engineering degree from San Jose State University.
