Newly rebuilt platform escalator open at Montgomery Street Station
Riders using Montgomery Street Station in San Francisco now have three completely rebuilt escalators connecting the platform and concourse levels.
The newest unit opened for service on Leap Day, February 29th, representing a big leap for the ambitious project to rebuild all of the escalators at the four downtown stations.
Connecting the south platform to the concourse near the One Post Plaza and to the Post and Montgomery Street entrances, the new escalator also makes for an easy connection to Muni.
Crews are just beginning work on rebuilding another platform escalator at Montgomery Street at the other end of the station.
Meantime, platform escalators at Powell Street and Embarcadero Stations are nearing completion and are expected to open this spring.
The work is all part of the Market Street Escalators Renovation Project to install and replace 41 escalators.
