BART Police Chief Ed Alvarez issued the following statement on the horrific death of Tyre Nichols:

“Words cannot express the pain, disgust, and trauma experienced from watching the murder of Tyre Nichols. The BART Police Department stands against the brutality and dehumanizing excessive force used to kill Tyre. As a department we must have the moral courage to own our past and the present and to recognize there is much work left to be done to reform policing in America. Our hearts are breaking and we will do all we can to end the culture that caused this senseless and horrific beating death."
