Evening service improvements begin 1/2/23
Starting January 2, 2023, BART service after 9pm will run with more even wait times between trains between Daly City and West Oakland every night.
Trains will no longer run in pairs, where two trains would arrive within a few minutes of each other, followed by a long gap in service, and will now run approximately every 15 minutes between Daly City and West Oakland, reducing wait times for many riders in San Francisco. Watch the video above for a visual.
This significant improvement is possible because we no longer need late-night single tracking for the Transbay Tube Seismic Retrofit Project, which closed half of the Tube each night and caused delays as trains waited their turn, often impacting timed transfers.
During single tracking, we used a special work train to install large steel plates, forming a new, resilient tunnel liner in case of earthquakes. Full completion of the Transbay Tube Retrofit Project is anticipated later in 2023.
The updated late-night schedule is already reflected in our Trip Planner for trips after January 2, as well as being updated in our data feed powering third party apps.
