BART Board hosts rare tour of Hayward Maintenance Complex for 10/27/22 board meeting

BART Board President Saltzman has requested a BART board meeting site tour at the Hayward Maintenance Complex. This mobile board meeting offers the public a rare chance to go inside our maintenance facility. This board meeting is in person only and will not be live-streamed or video recorded.

Time: 10am-12:30pm (meeting starts at 10am, shuttles start at 9:30am)

Members of the public attending the meeting and tour must take the free shuttle service from the South Hayward Station provided by BART for free. Shuttle service will begin at 9:30am.

• Wheelchair accessible shuttles will be available.
• The shuttle is a 10 minute ride to the Hayward Maintenance Complex (HMC).
• The shuttle will make multiple trips.
• 9:45am is the last departure from the parking lot at South Hayward that will arrive at HMC in time for the 10am start time of the meeting.
• Shuttles will continue to run after 9:45am and throughout the event to allow the public to arrive at anypoint during the meeting/tour.
• Shuttles will provide the return trip from HMC back to South Hayward BART.

Parking will be free at South Hayward BART station, but we encourage the public to take public transit or bike to South Hayward BART station. Bike parking is available at South Hayward BART.

If you park at South Hayward BART, please park in the "Daily Fee" area and not the "Reserved or Permit" area. 

While an RSVP is not required, we strongly encourage those who plan to attend to RSVP as early as possible so BART can arrange for enough shuttle service to meet demand.

What expect at the tour:

• Closed-toe shoes are required.
• The tour includes walking and standing. There will be four stops along the tour. The longest distance between stops is just under one mile (20 minute walk). An accessible shuttle will be available between tour stops.
• Restrooms will be available.

The meeting and tour begins at 10am and includes the Component Repair Shop, our Central Warehouse, our Fleet of the Future Maintenance Facility, and our Maintenance and Engineering Shop and Yard.

BART staff will cover topics including an update on our Core Capacity Program which includes our Train Control Modernization Program, Traction Power upgrades, the Fleet of the Future program, and the second phase of the Hayward Maintenance Complex and East Storage Yard.
