Access impacts expected at North Berkeley Station from work on raised crosswalk
Work is scheduled to begin on July 5, 2022, on a raised crosswalk in front of the North Berkeley Station. Work will take place directly in front of the station entrance (see map). This is the latest step for the North Berkeley Access Improvements Project. Construction impacts will include the following:
- Pedestrians walking between the station plaza and Sacramento Street will be temporarily routed around the work area.
- The main roadway in front of the station area will be converted from two-way to one-way operation southbound (from Virginia Street to Delaware Street), so drivers and cyclists will not be able to reach the front of the station from Delaware Street. Instead, they will be detoured through the station area to Virginia, from which they will be able to drive to the front of the station.
- Taxis will remain on the east side of the road but will be temporarily relocated farther to the north.
- The Golden Gate Fields shuttle stop will be relocated to the west side of the road, near Delaware Street.
- All drivers exiting the parking lots along Sacramento Street will do so via the south driveway.
Most work will be carried out between 7am and 5pm with occasional weekend work. This phase of the project is expected to take three months to complete.
The project, which began in November 2021, includes bicycle and pedestrian access improvements in the satellite parking lots to the northwest of the station as well as the main station area. For questions, comments and details of the scope of work, visit bart.gov/nberkeleybike.
