BART Board President Statement on District 7

BART Board President Rebecca Saltzman has issued the following statement as an update on BART District 7:

“On March 23, 2022, BART announced Director Simon would continue to serve on the BART Board, as the Board of Directors had not made a determination that a vacancy existed in District 7.

BART has consulted with outside legal counsel with expertise in election and redistricting law. Outside legal counsel has advised that the BART Board of Directors are not required to take any action on this matter. As President of the Board, I do not plan to agendize any follow up action. Director Simon lives in District 7 in Emeryville and will continue to serve on the BART Board.

I want to thank Director Simon for her continued commitment to BART, our riders, and the residents of District 7. Lateefah has shown tremendous grace throughout this situation, and I look forward to continuing our work to deliver reliable, safe, accessible, and equitable public transit to the Bay Area.”
