"Good vibes on the train": BART employee takes BART to wedding ceremony at San Francisco City Hall

Even before joining BART, Michelle Robertson thought it was a no-brainer to take a train to her wedding ceremony. Robertson, the new Senior Marketing Representative at the Communications Department, wanted to avoid any and all parking and traffic hassles in the heart of San Francisco during a busy weekday.

On Wednesday afternoon, Robertson and her now-husband Orion met at BHQ and then walked to 19th St. Oakland Station to catch a train to Civic Center Station. Friends accompanied on their BART trip to offer company and take photographs to capture the special day. The couple dressed up elegantly, with Robertson holding a bouquet.

When the train – a legacy train, perhaps unfortunately – pulled up, the wedding couple party received a warm reception from riders in the same train car, said Robertson. A regular commute car on BART instantaneously turned into a carnival car with Robertson and Orion as the celebrities.

“There were guys in the car trying to talk to us, and I told them we were getting married and everyone got super excited,” said Robertson. “It was good vibes on the train. Everyone was cheering us on and it was very sweet.”

Robertson said she also received incredible feedback from BART employees and station agents who congratulated their wedding en route to City Hall.

Robertson joined BART just last week to help produce stories on the numerous progresses BART is making to become a world-class transit agency, and the people who work to deliver BART to promise. A current resident of Oakland and a lifelong Bay Arean, Robertson was a features reporter for SFGATE prior to joining BART’s Communications Department.

“I was just proud to be taking BART to get married,” said Robertson. “It added a whole new layer of joy to the day. I love riding BART and the fact that I get to take it to get to this amazing thing was an incredible situation.”

Robertson said the train ride to Civic Center was smooth and without any delays. Robertson’s verdict: take BART if you are getting married at San Francisco City Hall – or anywhere it is BARTable.

“I would 100% recommend you take BART to get married,” said Robertson. “You’ll feel like you’re part of something bigger than yourself while feeling convenient. Who wants to worry about parking on your wedding day?”
