The northwest entrance to the station at the corner of 20th Street and Broadway closed beginning the week of June 1, 2021. The stairs/escalator entrance will be closed for approximately 6 months so crews can install the infrastructure for a new station agent booth, relocate fare gates, install a new elevator and make repairs to terrazzo tiles.
The southwest entrance at 19th Street Oakland Station located at 17th and Broadway reopened in September of 2021.
As part of our modernization project at 19th Street Oakland Station, we will close the northwest entrance to the station at the corner of 20th Street and Broadway beginning the week of June 1, 2021. The stairs/escalator entrance will be closed for approximately 6 months so crews can install the infrastructure for a new station agent booth, relocate fare gates, install a new elevator and make repairs to terrazzo tiles. Please note the southwest station entrance is also closed for ongoing construction (see map).
Temporary wayfinding signs will be installed to assist customers and plywood barriers will be installed around work areas inside of the station to keep riders and staff safe from construction activities.
Other improvements being made at 19th Street Station as part of the modernization project include the installation of a new concourse, painting of the concourse ceiling, new platform and trackway lighting and new glass fare gate barriers with decorative art in the glazing.
The construction is funded by State of California Proposition 1B funds, BART Measure RR funds, Caltrans (STIP) funds, Alameda CTC Measure BB funds, and a Federal Department of Transportation TIGER Grant, as part of the broader GO Uptown project with the City of Oakland.
We apologize for the inconvenience of the entrance closures and appreciate your patience.
