Reserved parking and waitlists transitioning to official BART app
BART is transitioning its monthly, single day and airport/long term-reserved parking and waitlists systemwide to the official BART app to give riders a more modern and convenient way to pay.
Reserved parking has previously been known as permit parking at BART, but with this transition to the official app, a printed out permit or hang tag will no longer be required. Payment for monthly reserve and single/multiple day reserve spaces will be made within the app and your license plate will be registered and used to verify payment by parking enforcement officers.
BART offers reserved parking in designated areas to give customers priority parking closest to the station before 10am. Reserved parking may be purchased in advance or on the spot while supplies last.
The transition is already complete at the following stations: Richmond, El Cerrito del Norte, El Cerrito Plaza, North Berkeley, Ashby, MacArthur, Rockridge, Lake Merritt, Fruitvale, Coliseum, San Leandro, Bay Fair, Hayward, South Hayward, Union City, Fremont, Warm Springs, West Oakland, Daly City, Colma, South San Francisco, San Bruno, and Millbrae. At these stations, customers now use the official BART app to purchase monthly reserved, single day reserved, and multi-day (previously known as Airport/Long Term) reserved spaces. This includes the process of joining the monthly reserve wait list. Select-a-Spot paper permits are no longer accepted at these stations.
Starting in mid-August, the remaining stations will transition to the app. These include: Antioch, Castro Valley, Concord, Dublin/Pleasanton, Lafayette, North Concord/Martinez, Orinda, Pittsburgh/Bay Point, Pleasant Hill/Contra Costa Centre, West Dublin/Pleasanton, and Walnut Creek.
After receiving an invitation, customers with current monthly reserved parking at these stations must register for the new app-based feature by the specified transition deadline to continue enrollment in BART’s monthly reserved parking program:
- Download the BART Official App from the Apple App Store or Google Play store; if you already have the app, make sure you have the latest version.
- Ensure you have a BART app profile that uses the same email you use with Select-a-Spot.
- Select the parking tab and the monthly parking button, and follow the prompts to enter payment methods, confirm your license plate and phone number, and claim your reserved parking.
Once the transition is complete, Select-a-Spot parking permits will no longer be accepted. Reserved parking holders may expect to be charged through the official app on the 15th day of every month.
Customers on the monthly waitlist
After receiving an invitation, customers on a monthly waitlist at a BART station must create an account within the BART official app by the specified transition deadline to maintain the same waitlist position spot they currently have.
- Download the BART Official App from the Apple App Store or Google Play store; if you already have the app, make sure you have the latest version.
- Ensure you have a BART app profile that uses the same email you use with Select-a-Spot. You must create a new profile and will not be able to login directly with your Select-a-Spot password.
- Create an account and see your waitlist spot. When reserved parking becomes available, you will get an email notification and 7 days to claim your monthly reserved parking.
