BART Police Department wearing new officer badges

BART Police BadgeBART Police Chief Kenton W. Rainey is changing not only the image of the BART Police Department but also its badge.

Since 1972, BART police have worn shields as the Department's badge. With the consensus of the Department's sworn police employees, Chief Rainey is changing from shields to seven-point star badges. The star badge is commonly worn throughout Northern California by local law enforcement and is easily identifiable to the public as a police badge.

The new badge represents the changes occurring within the BART Police Department as well as promotes the Departmental values of Service, Accountability, Diversity, Professionalism and Integrity.

Sworn Officers, Sergeants, Lieutenants, Deputy Chiefs and the Chief will all be assigned the new badges; the new badges will be assigned and distributed this month.
