BART running longer trains for Giants' World Series victory parade

BART is urging fans and commuters alike to take public transportation to San Francisco on Wednesday, when a World Series victory parade for the Giants is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. The Giants clinched the championship Monday night against the Texas Rangers. BART will be running longer trains on all lines to accommodate extra riders.

The parade route starts at Montgomery and Washington streets, going southbound on Montgomery to Market Street, then continues west on Market to Civic Center Plaza. After the parade the team will receive a symbolic "key to the city" on the steps of City Hall.

Depending on where fans want to position themselves along the parade route, any of the downtown San Francisco BART stations could provide easy access by public transportation. Embarcadero or Montgomery Street stations are closest to the start of the parade; Powell Street Station is in the middle and Civic Center/UN Plaza Station would put you at the end of the route.  BART encourages riders to plan their trips using the BART QuickPlanner and to purchase a roundtrip ticket to avoid lines, or use an electronic Clipper card (more info at www.clippercard.com).

BART is hearing buzz that many people plan to take time off work or even let their kids play hooky from school to see the historic celebration. However, for those with a regular work day or other needs to get to the city, taking BART can help avoid the additional traffic clogging the roads and parking lots due to the parade. It's the Giants' first World Series victory since 1954; the team moved to the city in 1958.
