Electrical upgrades occurring at 24th Street/Mission Station

Two critical electrical replacement projects will take place at the BART 24th Street/Mission Station this month. For both projects, equipment removal and installation will occur primarily overnight on weekends during non-revenue hours.

The first project is a PG&E electrical replacement of outdated Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS) equipment. This project requires the use of a generator to provide continued electrical power to the station while replacement work takes place. The generator will be located on the BART plaza and will run continuously for three days from 3:00 am Friday, May 14, 2010 – 3:00 am Monday, May 17, 2010. The second project is part of the BART Station Modernization Project to replace outdated electrical equipment at the BART 24th Street/Mission Station. The electrical equipment — 480 volt switchgear — ensures power supply for functions critical to operation of trains and the station such as fire protection, fare equipment and lighting. A backup generator will be located on site for use in the event of an emergency. This work will immediately follow the PG&E electrical replacement project on May 17, 2010 and is scheduled to be complete by mid June 2010. This station is one of many stations that are scheduled to receive replacement 480 volt switchgear and PG&E Automatic Transfer Switchgear. Notice will be given in advance of any work at each station.
