Temporary assisted parking available at El Cerrito del Norte during construction

Dear Customer:

As part of our system-wide Earthquake Safety Program, we are in the process of strengthening the El Cerrito del Norte Station parking structure to withstand future earthquakes. Beginning in mid-December, construction crews will begin expanding their work within the parking garage. While the majority of the garage will remain open and accessible to drivers, this safety construction will result in the temporary closure of some parking spaces for approximately eight months. To offset the loss of some parking, we have contracted DAJA International LLC to provide assisted parking for BART customers beginning in late December 2009. Assisted parking will be available in the BART parking lot located north of the station between Knott Avenue and Cutting Boulevard.

Download the map (.pdf)  to see where the assisted parking will be available. Although the assisted parking service is free, BART will begin charging daily parking fees at this station in January. Look for passenger bulletins that will explain the status and details of daily parking fees.

Assisted Parking Details
If you choose to take advantage of the free assisted parking service, the DAJA attendants will ask you to park your car in the aisles to fit more cars into the lot and then turn your keys over to the attendants. The attendants will be in uniform and will issue you a ticket to ensure proper return of your vehicle. Hours of operation are 7:00 AM—10:00 PM, Monday through Friday, except for holidays. Vehicles that are left after 10:00 PM can be retrieved the next business day Monday – Friday after 7:00 AM. In case of an emergency, you can call 415.710.6269 to retrieve your vehicle after closing hours. A $50 fee may be charged for after-hour retrieval.

New Disabled Parking Area
As part of this project, we will need to permanently relocate some disabled parking spaces from their current location inside the parking garage to the surface lot immediately north of the garage. Rest assured that before we close any existing spaces, we will create new disabled parking spaces in that surface lot. We appreciate your patience and cooperation during this work and will attempt to minimize construction-related noise, dust and inconvenience.
