BART morning transbay ridership up 49%
Systemwide ridership up 24%
Following last night's closure of the Bay Bridge, BART's transbay ridership this morning was up 49% compared to a normal Wednesday morning.
Typically between the start of service and 10 a.m. BART would carry about 55,800 passengers between the East Bay and San Francisco. This morning, early pasenger counts show that transbay ridership increased by 27,200 riders for a total of approximately 83,000 transbay riders.
Additionally, overall morning ridership was up 24%. Typically, during a Wednesday morning commute, BART would carry about 112,700 passengers systemwide. Today, early passenger counts show a total of 139,200 riders systemwide.
