BART to run Sunday service on Memorial Day
BART will run longer trains to carry the large crowds going to and from Carnaval, the Oakland A’s versus Arizona games and various concerts this Memorial Day weekend.
BART IS CONVENIENT TO CARNAVAL
The Carnaval festival and parade are one of the biggest multicultural events in California. Organizers expect tens of thousands of revelers this year. They urge them to use BART and other public transit – especially on Sunday, when many streets in the San Francisco Mission District will close until the parade is over.
BART’s 24th St./Mission and 16th St./Mission stations are a short walk from the Carnaval music festival, which takes place on both Saturday, May 23, and Sunday, May 24. Once exiting either station, revelers can salsa, samba, soca or simply walk east down 24th or 16th Streets, five blocks to the festival area on Harrison Street. Accessing the Grand Parade is even easier. As soon as you exit the stations you are on the parade route. The parade starts around 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, May 24 on 24th Street at Bryant. It follows 24th Street, turns down Mission Street and then ends along 17th Street. Riders can plan their trip using the BART QuickPlanner.
MEMORIAL DAY SERVICE
On Memorial Day itself, BART will operate on a Sunday schedule. Service will begin at 8 a.m. and run until approximately midnight. BART’s Administration Office will be closed in observance of the federal holiday. BART wants to remind everyone that there will be plenty of free parking at its stations over the weekend and on Memorial Day as parking fees do not apply on weekends and on designated BART holidays such as Memorial Day. Weekday, weekend and holiday train schedules are available at all BART stations. Travel information is also available by calling (510) 465-BART (510 465-2278).
