Take BART to San Francisco's "Sunday Streets"

Join an urban experiment this Sunday as San Francisco opens the streets along a four-and-a-half-mile route to encourage walking, biking, skating and other car-free activities. From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. the city will limit traffic on a stretch of road connecting the Bayview to Chinatown via the Embarcadero.

The route is accessible from three downtown San Francisco BART stations -- and taking public transit is encouraged. After all, the focus is CAR-FREE! It's part of a pilot program called "Sunday Streets," and it'll happen again on Sunday, Sept. 14.

Sunday Streets is free and open to all, and there are lots of special events to encourage activity, from a Moon Bounce jumpy house in Chinatown, to running the bases at AT&T Ballpark, to Double Dutch classes at China Basin.

"Sunday Streets offers a safe opportunity to enjoy a beautiful, waterfront promenade and two vibrant neighborhoods that are usually dominated by cars," said BART Board Director Tom Radulovich.

The Sunday Streets route is accessible from the Embarcadero, Montgomery and Powell Street Stations.  From 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., Muni will offer free rides on T and F-lines.
