Extra BART Police for Olympic torch relay
Train service remains unchanged
BART Police will have extra officers on hand during today's Olympic Torch relay through San Francisco.
"We're assigning extra officers to downtown San Francisco," BART Police Chief Gary Gee said. "As with most demonstrations, we don't expect the protests to negatively impact our service. Most of the attention will be along the torch-run route which, for the most part, will be away from our stations."
For security reasons, the BART Police Department will not discuss how many extra officers will be on hand for the demonstrations.
BART train service will remain at normal levels during the demonstrations. Based on the crowd estimates that the San Francisco Police Department has provided BART, the crowds won't be large enough to warrant providing extra service.
