MacArthur stabbing suspect in custody
BART Police say media reports prompted surrender
BART Police announced Friday, May 13 the suspect wanted in the stabbing of a passenger on the platform at MacArthur Station on Thursday, May 12 is now under arrest. Police say the juvenile female surrendered to authorities after seeing media reports about the crime. The name of the suspect is being withheld because of her age. Despite the arrest, BART detectives are encouraging any witnesses of the stabbing to come forward. "This is an ongoing investigation," said Police Chief Gary Gee. "We'd like to hear from witnesses and would like them to call (510) 464-7040."
PHONE CALL PRECEDED SURRENDER
Friday morning BART Police received a call giving them the name of an alleged suspect. BART Detectives immediately notified Juvenile Hall they were looking for a specific person and soon afterward the suspect turned herself in to Juvenile Hall. The individual who made the call preceding the surrender is not being publicly identified at this time.
POLICE BELIEVE ARGUMENT LED TO THURSDAY'S STABBING
Police believe the suspect and the victim, both females, argued immediately before Thursday afternoon's stabbing. BART officials do not believe the suspect picked the victim at random and stress the Transit system is safe. This is being investigated as assault with a deadly weapon. There is no further information available about the status of the victim.
