BART to host Twitch livestream with San Francisco Zoo and Gardens to engage and educate youth riders

Twitch livestream graphicOn Monday, March 20, starting at 4pm, BART will host a livestream on Twitch with the San Francisco Zoo and Gardens to celebrate red-legged frogs, a federally threatened species that resides in some of the natural areas around the BART system. The live event will stream from the California Conservation Corridor at the San Francisco Zoo and Gardens.

Broadcast on World Frog Day, the livestream is part of BART’s continued efforts to engage youth riders. By reaching youth on the platforms where they gather, we hope to educate and inspire the next generation of transit riders, advocates, and enthusiasts.

The livestream will feature BART staff, including BART biologist Jeff Steinman and Principal Safety Engineer Ed Moore, San Francisco Zoo amphibian conservationist Rochelle Stiles, and local wildlife biologist Ted Robertson. Local content creator and popular Twitch streamer Ying will host the stream.

In addition to sharing educational content about the BART system and the incredible red-legged frog – a species found solely in California and northern Baja California – the stream will show trained biologists feeding the frogs live on camera.

Viewers can anticipate raffles – including free zoo passes and a special BART 50th anniversary Clipper card – trivia, Q&As with BART staff and biologists, a short story reading, cricket tasting, and more. There will also be a sneak peek of BART’s forthcoming anime mascots (learn more about the BART Anime Project here). Bring all your questions about BART, the San Francisco Zoo and Gardens, and amphibians to the stream!
