BART doubles parking spaces for holiday travelers

More Airport/Long Term parking spaces for SFO and Oakland Airport customers

BART has doubled the amount of Airport/Long Term parking spaces available this Thanksgiving season and is urging customers to reserve their permits online as soon as possible.

BART riders may purchase Airport/Long Term parking permits online before arriving at the station. The permits are expected to sell quickly despite the fact that BART is offering customers twice the number of permits for the busy Thanksgiving travel period.

1,640 parking spaces will be available for airport travelers from Wednesday, November 21 through Monday, November 26, double the normal space allocation.

"If we can put some smiles on our customers' faces and reduce some of their holiday stress, that's great," said BART Board President Lynette Sweet. "While our first priority is to our daily patrons, we know that many of our regular riders aren't using BART during the holiday season; therefore we are able to provide hundreds of additional spaces for airport travelers."

Buying an Airport/Long Term parking permit allows BART riders to leave their cars at BART stations beyond the 24 hour time limit without facing the $100 parking citation.

Airport/Long Term Parking

  • 1,640 total spaces now available
  • Additional spaces available from 11/21 ? 11/26
  • Cost: $5 per day in the East Bay
  • $6 per day in the West Bay
  • Reserve permits online

820 ADDITIONAL AIR/ LONG/TERM SPACES
BART is setting aside an additional 820 spaces system-wide for Airport/Long Term parking. That's a 100% increase, bringing the total spaces for Airport/Long Term to 1,640. Airport/Long Term parking is available at all East Bay station with parking lots, excluding West Oakland, Coliseum/Oakland Airport and Lake Merritt stations.

West Bay stations with available Airport/Long Term parking are Colma, South San Francisco, San Bruno and Millbrae.

Customers may purchase an Airport/Long Term parking permit online. First-time customers can learn how to purchase a permit by watching Malou Nubla's segment on BARTtv News at www.BART.gov/news/BARTtv.

For guaranteed parking in the holiday spaces, park before 10 a.m. After 10 a.m., customers must park in any available space.

Again, drivers who do not have Airport/Long Term parking permits are subject to the 24-hour weekday time limit on parking in all BART lots. Friday, November 23rd will be considered a weekday and all parking regulations will be enforced; vehicles parked over the four day weekend without an Airport/Long Term permit will be subject to the $100 fine.

The additional Airport/Long Term spaces will be available from Wednesday, November 21 through Monday, November 26.

Even if one includes the round trip train fare to SFO from one of the participating BART stations, passengers will find that parking in a BART lot is much more affordable than at an off-airport lot. In fact, in some cases passengers could save $15 over three days.
