BART installing fiber optic cable between 24th St. and Balboa Park

BART crews will install fiber optic cable between the 24th St. Mission and Balboa Park stations Tuesday, April 10 through Saturday, April 21. The work will start at 10:30 p.m. nightly. BART will close one set of tracks between 24th St. Mission and Balboa Park during work hours.

During this work, BART trains on the Pittsburg/Bay Point-Daly City line will terminate at 24th St. Mission Station. Trains from Dublin/Pleasanton to San Francisco International Airport (SFO) will run normally and should remain on time.

Trains from SFO to Dublin/Pleasanton will encounter 5- to 8-minute delays between Balboa Park and 24th St. Mission stations. To keep delays at a minimum, BART will attempt to make up this time as the trains travel between 24th Street Mission and Bay Fair stations.

Passengers bound for stations on the SFO extension who normally transfer at Balboa Park Station will need to transfer at 24th St. Mission Station during work hours.

BART is installing this fiber optic cable as part of the program to expand cellular phone access in the underground portion of the system.
