Bicycle Task Force

The BART Bicycle Task Force generally meets the first Monday of every other (even number) month in Oakland at the MetroCenter Building across the street from the Lake Merritt BART Station. The meetings, which begin at 6:00 p.m., are open to the public. There are six appointed members of the Task Force, two people from each of the counties represented by BART: Alameda, Contra Costa and San Francisco. These members are appointed by each county's Bicycle Advisory Committee. The Task Force is charged with reviewing and working with BART to improve bicycle access to and on BART.

Specifically, the Bicycle Task Force:

  • Reviews proposed bicycle policies and offers suggestions for improvements
  • Discusses problems and complaints regarding bicycles on BART
  • Presents recommendations to BART Board of Directors
  • Acts as a liaison between BART and bicyclists

Recent Bicycle Task Force projects include their work to:

  • Upgrade and add bicycle parking throughout the BART system
  • Improve access for bikes on BART trains
  • Assist BART in getting the word out about new bicycle programs
  • Improve education and promotion of all bicycle policies
  • Assist in the organization and promotion of workshops aimed at giving bicyclists a forum to discuss any bicycle-related issue with the BART Board of Directors
  • Review and discontinue the bicycle permit program in favor of easy access for bicyclists.

Steve Beroldo, Customer Access Department, is the BART staff liaison to the Task Force. If you have any questions about the Task Force contact him by phone at (510) 464-6158 or by e-mail at sberold@bart.gov.
