Stairs remain open at Drumm and Market (near the cable car turnaround). The station has three other escalators connecting the concourse to the street, as well as an elevator. The escalator near Drumm Street suffered a major mechanical breakdown in mid-March. The unit is expected to be repaired and back in service by the end of April.Meantime, crews are working to install a new, more reliable escalator at the North entrance on the other side of Market Street. It's one of 22 street level escalators BART is replacing along with 18 concourse to platform units as the single largest project for escalator replacement in BART history. https://www.bart.gov/news/articles/2024/news20240320 03.20.24 <![CDATA[Entrance Closure Alert: Embarcadero Station entrance at Market and Pine to close March 14]]> https://www.bart.gov/news/articles/2024/news20240307?rss The Embarcadero Station entrance at Market and Pine streets will close beginning Thursday, March 14th but four other entrances will remain available. This Market/Pine entrance will be closed off to public access for approximately eight months while a new protective canopy is built. This canopy and others along Market Street will not only protect new escalators being installed from the wear-and-tear of elements like rain and wind-swept debris, but they will provide an added layer of station security and cleanliness through motorized gates that allow the entrances to be locked at street level when stations are closed. Each canopy includes a real-time digital display that shows train arrival times, a retractable gate, LED lighting, security cameras and art elements. Meantime, the entrance across the street at Market and Beale will reopen following completion of a new canopy. In addition, riders will still be able to use the Market and Davis street entrance as well as three other entrances at the station. https://www.bart.gov/news/articles/2024/news20240307 03.07.24 <![CDATA[Newly rebuilt platform escalator open at Montgomery Street Station]]> https://www.bart.gov/news/articles/2024/news20240301?rss Riders using Montgomery Street Station in San Francisco now have three completely rebuilt escalators connecting the platform and concourse levels. The newest unit opened for service on Leap Day, February 29th, representing a big leap for the ambitious project to rebuild all of the escalators at the four downtown stations. Connecting the south platform to the concourse near the One Post Plaza and to the Post and Montgomery Street entrances, the new escalator also makes for an easy connection to Muni.Crews are just beginning work on rebuilding another platform escalator at Montgomery Street at the other end of the station.Meantime, platform escalators at Powell Street and Embarcadero Stations are nearing completion and are expected to open this spring. The work is all part of the Market Street Escalators Renovation Project to install and replace 41 escalators. , https://www.bart.gov/news/articles/2024/news20240301 03.01.24 <![CDATA[Newly rebuilt platform escalator open at Montgomery Street Station]]> https://www.bart.gov/news/articles/2024/news20240301?rss Riders using Montgomery Street Station in San Francisco now have three completely rebuilt escalators connecting the platform and concourse levels. The work is all part of the Market Street Escalators Renovation Project to install and replace 41 escalators. , https://www.bart.gov/news/articles/2024/news20240301 03.01.24 <![CDATA[Rebuilt platform escalator open at Civic Center Station]]> https://www.bart.gov/news/articles/2023/news20231221?rss A fully rebuilt escalator now connects the platform and concourse levels at Civic Center Station in downtown San Francisco. The new canopy will protect our escalator at this entrance from the elements to help limit breakdowns. While this entrance is closed, patrons will still be able to use one of the other entrances to the station, including the Market and Pine entrance across the street.Over the next 4-5 years BART will construct 16 canopies on Market Street over downtown station entrances. As part of a separate project, new escalators will be installed at each of these locations following the canopy construction. In addition to protecting new escalators, the canopies will improve safety and reduce station maintenance costs. We thank you for your patience as we work to complete this important construction project. For more information on this project visit: bart.gov/about/planning/sfentrances. https://www.bart.gov/news/articles/2023/news20230831 08.31.23 <![CDATA[Montgomery Station entrance closed for construction with limited access through concourse]]> https://www.bart.gov/news/articles/2022/news20220101?rss Beginning September 13, 2021, a large barricade will be set up inside Montgomery Station on the Mezzanine (Concourse) Level to facilitate the installation of a new Traction Power Substation. The barricades will close off concourse level access between the two sides of Montgomery Station (see map). Riders who want to move from one side of the station to the other can do so on the platform level while the barricades are in place. In addition, the contractor will also construct a work enclosure on the sidewalk above the Montgomery station. This work enclosure fencing on the street level will encompass the Market and 2 nd Street BART entrance – closing off the escalator and stairway access at that entrance (see map). These enclosures will be in place until Fall 2023 to allow the contractor to bring in equipment necessary to complete the work and will also be used for removing debris from inside the station to make room for the new substation. The nearest escalator/stairway entrance will be across the street at Market and Sutter Streets. BART is in the process of adding 5 new Traction Power Substations throughout the system in order to ensure reliable service in the future and to improve our core capacity which will allow us to run additional 10-car trains through the Transbay Tube (from 23 up to 30 per hour). Two of the five substations are being built in downtown San Francisco stations, one at Civic Center and one at Montgomery. Most work will be carried out between 7am and 5pm with occasional night and weekend work. Thank you for your patience as we complete this important work. pdf of map https://www.bart.gov/news/articles/2022/news20220101 01.01.22
