BART service restored after earlier service disruption

1:30 pm update

At 5:10 a.m., one of the dozens of BART’s field network devices failed, disrupting the operational communications network. The system went into fail safe mode and shut down.

Engineers and technicians worked to locate the failed device and to restore communications functionality.

Service was restored in the East Bay by 11:40 a.m. and full system restoration was complete at 12:20 p.m.

Engineers have implemented a configuration change to the network which is expected to protect against future device failures that could potentially shut down the system.

We at BART apologize to the public for not being able to provide service this morning. We thank you for your patience and understanding.
