BART celebrates the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with dance, music and poetry

Honorable Willie L. Brown Jr. to deliver keynote speech 

On Wednesday, January 18 from noon to 1:15 pm, the public is invited to join BART in its 25 th annual celebration of the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. This year’s “Monumental Celebration” commemorates the recent unveiling of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. National Monument in Washington D.C. Stone of Hope. The celebration features keynote speaker The Honorable Willie L. Brown Jr., spoken word by members of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Freedom Center and a performance by the Afoutayi Dance and Drum Company. This free event will take place in the auditorium on the second floor of the BART administration building at 300 Lakeside Drive in Oakland. 

The program will include BART Director Lynette Sweet as Mistress of Ceremonies, opening remarks from General Manager Grace Crunican and music by “In Session.”
