Update on out-of-service Glen Park Station escalator

We apologize for the inconvenience caused by the broken escalator at Glen Park Station. The main drive assembly was out of alignment and needed to be rebuilt and replaced. This is a major undertaking and has required an extensive amount of precision work which is taking longer than expected to complete. This means the escalator will be restored to service August 26, 2011, barring unforeseen complications.. All necessary parts are on site and we are working hard to complete the work as soon as possible.

We recognize the great inconvenience this has caused you, but we have been able to conduct a full service on the inner workings of the escalator which had not been done in many years. We hope that once this work is complete, it will result in many more years of trouble-free operation.

Passengers will need to use the elevator or stairs. We appreciate your patience. To check the operational status of the elevator before arriving at the station, please call 510-834-LIFT or 888-2-ELEVAT.

Updated from story of Aug. 5, to include new estimated repair date of Aug. 26.
