Parking fees to rise Aug. 1 at South San Francisco, San Bruno and Millbrae

On August 1, 2011, daily parking fees at South San Francisco, San Bruno and Millbrae stations will increase from $1 to $2.

The daily fee adjustments are consistent with parking policy approved by the BART Board of Directors in August 2002. The fee is adjusted according to demand. When the stations opened in June 2003, the daily fee was $2. In December of that year, to promote ridership and because of low demand, the Board authorized a reduction in the fees to $1.

Then in August of 2004, the fee was eliminated. In February 2009, the $1 daily fee was brought back as demand and ridership increased.

Based on a recent survey of the parking lots, it was found that usage has increased to the level that requires an increase in fees. The new fee of $2 a day meets the policy requirements. The monthly reserved permit fees will increase from $30 per month to $42 per month.

We will continue to monitor use of these parking lots every six months and will adjust the fees as required by the parking policy.
