As part of BART’s systemwide Earthquake Safety Program, we have begun work to strengthen structures at Lafayette Station to withstand future earthquakes. The work requires temporary closure of 30 permit parking spaces for approximately nine months, but the spaces will be re-opened as soon as the work is completed. We apologize for the inconvenience.
Additional permit parking spaces are available on the south side of the station off Happy Valley Road. The contractor, as necessary, will post "No Parking" signs in the designated area. Vehicles that are not moved from areas marked with "No Parking" signs on or after the date posted will be subject to ticketing and/or towing. During the project, you can expect construction-related noise, dust and minor inconveniences. Please watch for signs with safety information and other notices. We appreciate your patience and cooperation during this work.
A separate project to strengthen the elevated structures along nearby streets in Lafayette and Walnut Creek is also proceeding and is expected to be complete in August 2011. Earthquake Safety Program construction will be underway at various other locations throughout the BART system over the next four years, and is expected to be complete in 2014. As always, safety is BART’s top priority. Our aim is to strengthen BART as quickly as possible, while maintaining reliable service.
